“Perhaps the most frantic, frazzled, and feathered neighbor in Welcome Home, Poppy Partridge is the resident chicken, so to speak. From a sprained beak to sunburned feathers, she always thinks of the worst outcome to a pleasant situation. Then again, it never hurts to have a neighbor with a first aid kit on hand.”
Poppy was the resident worry-wart who came from a nest made of poppies nestled away in a tree hollow deep within the forest, which she would eventually outgrow to a staggering degree. As a big beautiful bird, she would move into an empty barn in Home and decorate it to her liking over time. Poppy was described as anxious, warm, easily frightened and quiet.
Poppy insisted she could fly in some iterations of her dialogue, most notably in her journey to Home, but there was no evidence of this throughout the show's run. It is also not clear what kind of bird she is, as she has stated she is a “bit of a flamingo on her father’s side and a bit of a hen on her mother’s side.” She has also noted, “it’s hard to keep track of a family tree… A lot of birds fit in trees, you know.” Poppy was rarely seen outside of her barn, typically being visited by neighbors instead, and has no material, illustrated or otherwise, showing her outdoors. This is further proven in found footage where Poppy is excluded (for unclear reasons) from Wally’s Homewarming party. Despite having different personalities, Poppy and Sally are often depicted together, and could potentially be best friends according to already found material.
Poppy’s puppet is a walk around puppet that concept work noted stood at around eight feet tall, but photographs showing her height have yet to be uncovered. Many of Poppy’s segments focused on baking, although she has also been implied to knit. She did not have a live-hand counterpart, so other puppets were often doing her work for her in various skits. Illustrations note that some possible assistants were Frank, Eddie, Howdy, and Sally, although she is seen with other neighbors as well. Within the context of the show, this was because she was too scared to use appliances. This also may be the reason why she is a vegetarian, according to “The Welcome Home Cookbook” that depicted an only sunflower seed turkey.
